Meet the Founders of Senior Safety Solutions

Joan and Joe Farace have decades of clinical experience as occupational therapists, working closely with patients and families in creating safe home environments as they transition from a clinical setting back home following an injury, fall, illness, or other medical condition. Their extensive background in occupational therapy and rehabilitation sets them apart from other general or franchised services providing home evaluations for seniors. Their decades of clinical experience and hands-on knowledge of fall prevention,  home safety modifications, and necessary adaptive equipment sets them apart in the senior safety industry, providing an extra benefit to aging adults and their families.

Joan Farace, OTR/L worked as a registered and licensed Occupational Therapist (OT) for 37 years prior to founding Senior Safety Solutions with her husband Joe. She has extensive experience working with diverse patient populations in a variety of settings including University of Maryland and Maryland General Hospitals, and Levindale Geriatric Center for close to three decades. Her clinical work as an occupational therapist has included neurological, medical, and surgical patients as well as treating individuals in acute and subacute care, outpatient and skilled nursing facilities, home health care, and a retirement community. Throughout her 37 years in occupational therapy, Joan has treated individuals with dementia and memory problems and has worked extensively with patients who had suffered falls and other medical conditions, performing multiple home safety and environmental evaluations to ensure a safe return to the home environment.

Joan’s work with patients and families over her years as an OT also included development of home exercise programs as well as counseling sessions with families to discuss recommendations for adaptive equipment and supervision needs upon their return to the home.

  • Associate of Applied Science in Occupational Therapy, Catonsville Community College, Catonsville, MD

Joseph Farace, COTA/L has more than two decades of experience as an Occupational Therapy Assistant, working extensively with the geriatric patient population in a variety of sub-acute rehabilitation facilities and retirement communities. His areas of specialty include safety training and fall prevention techniques, medication management, home exercise programs, as well as functional transfer training with equipment, such as, tub benches, shower chairs, and bedside commodes. His work with seniors also included performing home assessments and providing training for individuals prior to being discharged back to the home. He has worked with a diverse senior population over the years, providing occupational therapy services for patients with conditions including orthopedic and brain injuries,and dementia to name a few, providing him with the hands-on skills needed for the comprehensive home inspections performed by Senior Safety Solutions.

In addition to his occupational therapy work, Joe brings a unique perspective and skillset to Senior Safety Solutions as a former rehabilitation service technician for several medical rehabilitation companies. In this role, he repaired, adjusted, and modified wheelchairs, power chairs, and medical equipment as well as performed evaluations for patients to determine the appropriate mobility products for their specialized health needs. This unique experience and expertise allows Senior Safety Solutions to accommodate seniors who require modifications or assistance with the purchase or installation of special mobility and safety devices in their homes.
